Borning in a Colorful Place---- The Famous Painter Hong Ruisheng?

Because of his works represents the emotion, disposition, and customs of Fujian people, and his special painting, he was thought to be “the Red of Fujian”.

The Life of Jinka---R

Hong Ruisheng-----H

His painting was beginning with different forms of art.

R: How do you start your art career?

H:When I was in middle school, I was good at Blackboard Poster, sketch, watercolor painting, etc. My first teacher was the famous painter Zhang Houjin. Under his guidance, I was admitted into the oil painting department of the Central Art College, and received the formal education.

R:What kind of art influenced your life? What’s influence of Russia painting and Europe painting for you?

H: When I was in the art college, I was affected by the USSR a lot; at the same time, I had contacted the European painting like Impressionist, Matisse, and Picasso. After 1970s, I focused on the European painting, especially Impressionist and Modernist. It can be saith that the European painting was an important part in my art.

Because of the personality, I like to absorb garment, perception, and understand each respective strengths of art; we keep attention widely, and then comprehensively. This kind of comprehensive, not only including the east and western art integrated, also including the eclecticism and folk art. As time went by, I increasingly felt it was a significant meaning under the guidance of Dean Wu Zuoren and Ai Zhongxin. The influence of these effects was not outside but inherent, such as the intrinsic relationships between personality and art character and sincere attitude towards art. What benefit me a lot was:Chinese style oil painting, painting style and the dependence of painting skills, paintings of implicative, simple, subtle, last,  the aesthetic principles of art, and so on. These college educated was the foundation of my fifty years art exploration.

In pursuit of the oil painting of Chinese, actively exploring the language of oil painting

R: How do you handle with the problem of the Chinese style when you learn oil painting?

H:  It was in the art college that I contacted the oil painting. At that time, it was heatedly discussed the problem of the nationality of oil painting. In the creation, painters had a high enthusiastic of exploring and got achievement. That was a recommend time, and leave impression in my mind. Since the interim of 1970s, oil painting of Chinese style was my target.

Adhering to the idea, my point of view and practices were: "Chinese style" oil painting, rather than simply the traditional Chinese painting. The meditation should be kept, and no hurry. In these aspects of cultural psychology, mode of thinking, life experience, and space, modeling, color, light, pen, means and so on many aspects, bit by bit, made it oneself of the emotion, eye, think, hand being different from the out-land painter, who was expected to achieve the natural realm. In my understanding, "sinicization" of oil paintings, paintings of qualities also had the temperament of the Chinese; it should be to the east, and the new style of western painting synthesize was evolved. And should vary from person to person, show the personal style of rich.

Review of the last century, the first generation of oil painting predecessors, on the basis of their rich national cultural accomplishment, has been very consciously from different angles to explore the oil painting "Chinese style", and achieve very high achievement. A century later, the internal and external environment already have more favorable conditions, and the painter can explore more consciously, to upgrade the "Chinese style" painting to a higher level.
